The series has featured volleyball spin offs before, and Dead Or Alive Paradise is a PSP version of that same formula. There's no combat in this game, just a series of mini games which are generally geared towards showing off the lovely ladies. Along with volleyball, there's pool hopping, in which you race rivals along stepping stones trying not to fall into the water. There's also sunbathing periods during which you are able to, erm, take pictures of the girls in their bikinis.

As night falls, Dead or Alive: Paradise branches out a little more when you're able to visit the casino. Here, you're able to play games of Blackjack, Poker or try your luck at the slot machines. Winning these games earns you money to spend on new clothes, items etc.

Graphically, the game is nice enough to look at- the environments are nicely realised and the casino is a fun locale. Those inclined to admiring pixelated girls will surely have a whale of a time dressing them up (or down!). The Dead or Alive: Paradise gameplay certainly doesn't offer anything deep, but then the mini games are a fun distraction ideally suited for commuting journeys and the like.

Some interesting and innovative gaming ploys are used in Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. Firstly, the much discussed 'running' sequences from the Wii version are carried through. These find Harry defenceless and thus only able to run from his pursuers, and thus you engage in a terrifying interactive scene as you attempt to escape from those nipping at your heels.

Secondly, as players progress through the story, the gameplay is interspersed with sections involving Harry discussing life with a psychologist. This character will ask him general questions about life, his attitude to women etc. The answers you select will actually have an impact on the various places you visit and the characters/enemies you face. This clearly opens Silent Hill: Shattered Memories up for multiple playthroughs to see everything.

The game is set after the events of Metal Gear Solid 3, with players returning to control the original Snake, who has now become 'Big Boss'. Unlike with Portable Ops, this title is considered official canon within the franchise universe. The gameplay follows the basis set out in previous incarnations, with a major emphasis on stealth and espionage. The over-the-shoulder angle of Metal Gear 4 debuts in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, creating a fusion of the best elements of all previous titles.

Gameplay revolves around a co-op core, following suit with many of today's games in placing emphasis on teamwork. This is implemented throughout Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in both single player campaigns and multiplayer games, with a variety of alternate 'Snakes' to choose from. These variations range from a stealth bias to heavy weapons expert, allowing players to co-ordinate a well balanced team.

This title marks the first of two games to be released into the Metal Gear franchise this year, with the Raiden-centric Metal Gear Solid Rising to appear on next gen consoles later on. Kojima productions have created a great little title in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, bringing all the classic elements of earlier titles into an innovative new gameplay. The graphics and audio are polished to the highest calibre and the story sounds, as always, to be suitably epic.
